Ramanuja on the Bhagavadgita: A Condensed Rendering of his Gitabhasya with Copious Notes and an Introduction
Motilal Banarsidass, Delhi, India, 1974. Reprint, Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Titles, foreword to second edition, preface, list of abbreviations, contents & introduction to front; followed by this scholarly study of one of the lesser known works of this Indian philosopher. Ramanuja also known as Ramanujacharya, was an Indian Hindu philosopher, guru and a social reformer. He is noted to be one of the most important exponents of the Sri Vaishnavism tradition within Hinduism. His Vishishtadvaita (qualified non-dualism) philosophy has competed with the Dvaita (theistic dualism) philosophy of Madhvacharya, and Advaita (non-dualism) philosophy of Adi Shankara, together the three most influential Vedantic philosophies of the 2nd millennium. Ramanuja presented the epistemic and soteriological importance of bhakti, or the devotion to a personal God (Vishnu in Ramanuja's case) as a means to spiritual liberation. His theories assert that there exists a plurality and distinction between Atman (soul) and Brahman (metaphysical, ultimate reality), while he also affirmed that there is unity of all souls and that the individual soul has the potential to realize identity with the Brahman. Let us Travel this Empty World Unarmed to a Full Life
The Dhammadipa Foundation, Colombo, Sri Lanka, 2008. First Edition, Softcover (Saddle-stapled). Near Fine Condition. People in this world carry weapons for their own protection or for the protection of others. They protect themselves when there is some sort of fear. Most people have fear when they have doubt about their conduct. The one who can look at himself without fear is the person who leads a good life made fruitful by the Dhamma. He does not need weapons to protect himself because of the greatness given by the dhamma. He can traverse not only the world, but the whole of human society because he is armed with the dhamma the spiritual weapon. He who is devoid of the dhamma needs weapons which are a burden to both body and mind. "The Buddha Dhamma put into practice is the best of weapons. No weapon comparable to the Dhamma has been found anywhere in the world" Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 33 pages. no Dust Jacket as published.. Quantity Available: 1. Gilbert, Adrian G.
Magi: The Quest for a Secret Tradition
Bloomsbury Publishing, London, 1997. First Edition, Paperback. Near Fine Condition. 9780747531005 Written by the co-author of "The Orion Mystery" and "The Mayan Prophecies", this book takes the reader through the past, revealing how secret knowledge was both preserved in the East in the form of monumental architecture and at the time of the Crusades, passed westwards to the fledgling states of Europe. One of the best known stories of the Bible is the journey of the Magi as witnesses of the Nativity of Jesus, yet who were these "wise men"? Where did they come from and what could possibly have been their motive in making their journey to Bethlehem? In this book, such questions are answered in an exploration of the Magi legend. Threaded into an epic story are the results of Adrian Gilbert's extensive research. The author claims the truth is that not only was the birth of Jesus widely expected throughout the Middle East, but that Christianity itself has its deepest roots in the "pagan" mysteries of Egypt, Persia and Mesopotamia.
